Alright, listen up, y’all. My back’s been killin’ me somethin’ fierce, and the doctor man, he called it “sciatica.” Sounds fancy, but lemme tell ya, it ain’t nothin’ but pure pain. He said somethin’ ’bout eatin’ the right stuff to make it better, so I figured I’d share what I learned, the way I understand it, you know?
First off, he said I gotta eat more fruits and veggies. Said they’re good for ya. Like them tomatoes. He said they’re good if you got this here sciatica thing. I always liked tomatoes in my garden, so that ain’t too bad. And then there’s pineapple. He said it’s got some fancy word in it, “bromelain” or somethin’, but it helps with the hurtin’. I like pineapple, but it’s kinda sour, gotta sprinkle some sugar on it.
Then he went on and on about somethin’ called “oh-may-gah-three.” Sounded like a foreign language to me! But he said it’s in fish, like salmon and them sardines. I ain’t a big fish eater, but if it helps my back, I guess I’ll try it. He also said somethin’ ’bout seeds, but I ain’t no bird, so I’ll stick to the fish for now.
- Eat lots of fruits and veggies, y’all. They’re good for ya, like tomatoes and pineapple.
- Find some of that oh-may-gah-three stuff in fish. It’s supposed to help with the achin’.
He also said somethin’ important, gotta eat this stuff all the time, not just once in a while. Said it’s gotta be a “consistent diet.” Big words for an old lady like me, but I get the gist of it. Gotta eat the good stuff every day, not just when the pain gets real bad. And he said somethin’ ’bout “magnesium,” another fancy word. Said it helps the nerves get better. You can find it in them dark green leafy things, like spinach and kale. I ain’t never been a big fan of them greens, but if it helps my back, I’ll eat ’em like a rabbit.
He also said to eat berries, like them blueberries and strawberries. They’re sweet, so that’s good. And he said to eat nuts and beans, too. Said they’re good for ya. Seems like a lot of stuff to remember, but I wrote it down so I don’t forget.
Now, he also told me what NOT to eat. Said to stay away from all that processed stuff, the stuff in boxes and cans. Said it ain’t good for ya. And to lay off the sugar, too. That’s gonna be hard, ’cause I like my sweet tea, but I guess I gotta try if I wanna feel better.
So, basically, what I got from all that doctor talk is this: eat lots of fruits and veggies, find some of that oh-may-gah-three in fish, eat your greens even if you don’t like ’em, and stay away from the junk food. And do it all the time, not just when you’re hurtin’. It ain’t rocket science, just good ol’ fashioned eatin’ right. And if that doctor man is right, it’ll help this sciatica pain go away. I’m willin’ to try anything at this point, ’cause this back of mine is givin’ me fits!
And one more thing he said, somethin’ ’bout “anti-inflammatory” foods. That’s another big word, but I think it means foods that help with the swelling and pain. He said all them fruits and veggies and fish, they’re all “anti-inflammatory.” So, it all kinda fits together, see? Eat the good stuff, stay away from the bad stuff, and maybe, just maybe, this back of mine will start feelin’ better.
So that’s the long and short of it, folks. Eating right might just be the ticket to gettin’ rid of this sciatica pain. It ain’t easy changing old habits, but I’m gonna give it a shot. And if it works, I’ll be sure to tell everyone about it. ‘Cause nothin’ worse than livin’ with a back that’s always achin’. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go make myself a salad. With spinach, even though I don’t really like it.
