Alright, alright, let’s talk about this Audrey Hepburn and her “Funny Face” getup. You know, that movie where she’s all dolled up. People keep yappin’ about it, so I figured, why not? I ain’t no fancy movie critic, mind you, just a regular person lookin’ at things.
First off, that dress. The dress everyone’s goin’ on about. It’s kinda plain, if you ask me. Just a plain ol’ white thing. But I guess that’s what them fancy folks call “elegant.” She looks alright in it, I guess. Not my style, though. Too much like a sack, if you catch my drift. They say it’s sophisticated and all that, but to me, it just looks like somethin’ you’d wear to a fancy picnic, not a movie.

Now, they say she was a lot younger than that fella she was dancin’ with in the movie. Fred Astaire, I think his name was. He was old enough to be her daddy, practically! Thirty years older, they say. Can you imagine? But hey, that’s Hollywood for ya. Always doin’ things that don’t make no sense.
But let’s get back to that dress. Folks wanna wear it for their weddin’s now. Can you believe it? A plain white dress for a weddin’? Back in my day, weddin’ dresses were somethin’ special. Lace and frills and all sorts of fancy stuff. But I guess times change, huh? People wanna be like Audrey, I reckon. Even though she was wearin’ somethin’ that looked like it coulda been made outta an old bedsheet.
And this Audrey, she did all her own singin’ and dancin’ in the movie. That’s somethin’, I guess. Not like them other movie stars who just pretend to sing. She could actually move, that girl. Graceful, they call it. Yeah, I can see that. Even if the dress was a bit… well, you know.
They also talk about her fashion sense. “Minimalist,” they call it. That just means she didn’t wear a lot of fussy stuff, near as I can tell. Black and white, mostly. And beige. And pink sometimes. Plain colors, you know? Nothin’ flashy. And she always wore them flat shoes. Said she was too tall, or somethin’. I never heard of such a thing. Wish I was tall like her, instead of this short little thing I am.
Some folks say they don’t like the fella she’s paired with in the movie. Too old, they say. And I gotta agree with ’em on that one. It’s kinda weird watchin’ ’em dance together, him bein’ so much older. But hey, it’s a movie, right? It ain’t supposed to be real life.
So, that dress from “Funny Face.” Is it all that great? I don’t know. It’s just a dress, far as I’m concerned. But people seem to love it, so who am I to judge? Audrey Hepburn wore it, so it must be somethin’ special, I guess. That’s how it goes with them movie stars. They wear somethin’, and suddenly everyone wants it. Even if it’s just a plain white sack.
Anyway, that’s my two cents on this whole “Funny Face” dress thing. Like I said, I ain’t no expert. Just a regular person, tellin’ it like I see it. And if you ask me, that dress is just a plain white dress. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less. But hey, to each their own, right?
Now, let me tell you somethin’ about them clothes they wore back then… They were made better, that’s for sure. Not like the flimsy stuff they sell these days. Back then, clothes were made to last. You could wear ’em for years, and they’d still look good. Nowadays, you wash somethin’ a couple of times, and it falls apart. It’s a shame, really.
But I guess that’s progress for ya. Always movin’ forward, even if it means things ain’t made as good as they used to be. And that’s the truth, whether you like it or not.
