Hey there, y’all! So, you’re lookin’ for some books like that Outlander, huh? That one with all the time travel and kilts and such? I tell ya, my grandkids, they love that show. Always talkin’ ’bout Jamie this and Claire that. Anyways, I hear tell there’s other books out there just as good, maybe even better, who knows? Let me tell ya what I’ve heard, what folks around here been whisperin’ about.
Now, first off, some folks say if you like that Outlander, you might like this A Court of Thorns and Roses by this Sarah J. Maas lady. Heard it’s got some magic and romance, just like Outlander. Don’t know nothin’ ’bout it myself, mind you, but the young’uns seem to like it. They say it’s kinda like a fairy tale, but for grown-ups. You know, with all that lovey-dovey stuff and maybe a bit of fightin’ too.
- A Court of Thorns and Roses – Fairies and romance, they say.
- At The Water’s Edge – Water somethin’ or other, by some Gruen woman.
Then there’s this other book, At The Water’s Edge, by some woman named Sara Gruen. Folks say it’s got somethin’ to do with water, maybe a lake or a river, I ain’t too sure. But they say it’s a good story, somethin’ about love and maybe some secrets too. You know, the kind of stuff that keeps you up at night, wonderin’ what’s gonna happen next. I reckon it ain’t got no time travel, though, but folks still say it’s a good read if you liked Outlander.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ on that TV thing, the Netflix, I heard tell there’s a show called TURN. They say it’s a real masterpiece, whatever that means. And it’s got somethin’ to do with Outlander, somethin’ about a war, I think. They also talk about Reign, say it’s so good they watched it twice! And there’s Medici, and The Last Kingdom, and Bonfire of Destiny. Too many for this old woman to keep track of, but if you’re into that TV stuff, maybe you wanna check ’em out.
Now, about them Outlander books themselves, I heard some folks sayin’ you shouldn’t start with that Virgins book. Say it’s better to read it later, after you’ve read some of the others. They say most of them other books, the ones that ain’t the main story, they fit in somewhere in the middle of the book called Voyager. So, I guess you can read ’em between Voyager and Drums, whatever them books is about. Like I said, I ain’t read ’em myself, but that’s what I heard.
And speaking of that TV show, the one they call the Starz adaptation, folks say it’s pretty close to the books. You know, they don’t change too much, which is good, I reckon. Nobody likes it when they mess up a good story by changin’ it all around. So, if you’ve seen the show and liked it, maybe you’ll like the books too. Or if you’ve read the books, maybe you’ll like the show. It’s all the same story, just told in a different way, I guess.
So, to sum it all up, if you’re lookin’ for books like Outlander, you might wanna try:
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
- At The Water’s Edge by Sara Gruen
And if you’re lookin’ for TV shows like Outlander, maybe check out:
- TURN
- Reign
- Medici
- The Last Kingdom
- Bonfire of Destiny
Now, I ain’t no fancy book expert or nothin’, but that’s what I’ve heard folks talkin’ about. And I figure, if other folks like ’em, maybe you will too. So go on, give ’em a try. And if you don’t like ’em, well, there’s plenty of other books out there. Just gotta find the ones that suit your fancy. Just remember, don’t start with that Virgins book, okay? And if you’re watchin’ that TV show, well, just enjoy it. It ain’t nothin’ but a story, after all.
I tell ya, these young folks with their stories and their TV, always somethin’ new. But sometimes, an old woman like me can still appreciate a good yarn, even if it’s got time travel and magic and all that fancy stuff. So go on, find yourself a good book, sit down with a cup of tea, and enjoy. That’s what I always say.
And remember, if you finish that Outlander and you’re still wantin’ more, well, there’s plenty more where that came from, so they say. Just gotta poke around a bit, ask around, and you’ll find somethin’ you like. That’s the way it always is with stories, ain’t it? There’s always another one waitin’ to be told.
