Alright, let’s gab a bit about these two gals, Melissa Gilbert and Melissa Sue Anderson. You know, the ones from that Little House on the Prairie show? Yeah, that one. Always made me cry a bit, that show did.
So, Melissa Gilbert, she played Laura, that little wild one always running around. Now, I heard tell she up and left Los Angeles, said it was too much pressure. Too much pressure! Can you believe it? Folks always wanting to look young and perfect, like them pictures in magazines. She said it was like living in a mall, always on show. I reckon I can understand that, always having to be “on” for folks, must be tiring. Makes a body weary just thinking about it.
- She played Laura Ingalls, a real handful, that one.
- Said she left LA ’cause it was too much pressure. Imagine that!
- Compared it to living in a mall, always being watched. Makes sense, I guess.
Then there’s Melissa Sue Anderson, she played Mary, the good one, the one who went blind. Poor thing. Now, she didn’t seem to mind that Hollywood life so much. Kept on acting, she did. Been in all sorts of things, TV movies and such. The Equalizer, they say. Murder She Wrote too. Heard that one was a good one. My neighbor, Betty, she used to watch it all the time. Said it was about a lady solving crimes.
This Melissa Sue, she was born in California, back in ’62. A while ago, that is. Seems like yesterday I was watching them girls on TV, now they’re all grown up and got their own lives. Time sure flies, don’t it?
That Little House show, it was a big deal. A fella named Michael Landon, he was the boss of it all. Had a real vision, they say. Made it all happen. He played Pa, you know. Good man, he seemed like. Always teaching them girls right from wrong. More folks could use a bit of that these days, that’s for sure.
And the crying! Oh, that show could make you cry a river. Them girls, Melissa Gilbert and Karen Grassle, who played Ma, they could really turn on the waterworks. Made you feel for them, it did. Like you were right there with them, living through it all. Good acting, I guess they call it.
I always wondered what it was like for them, being famous like that. Having folks know your face everywhere you go. Must be strange, right? Like you can’t just go to the grocery store without someone staring at you. But then again, they probably made a good bit of money, so maybe it wasn’t so bad after all. Money can’t buy you happiness, but it sure can make being miserable a whole lot more comfortable, that’s what my old man used to say.
Anyway, them two Melissas, they sure did make their mark. Brought a lot of joy to folks, they did. And that Little House show, it’ll always be one of them shows you remember. Makes you think about family and hard work and all that good stuff. And about how tough life could be back then. Makes you appreciate what you got, that’s for sure.
You know, it’s funny how things work out. One Melissa leaves Hollywood to get away from the fuss, and the other one stays and keeps on acting. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Just goes to show you, there ain’t no one right way to live your life. You gotta do what makes you happy, that’s what I always say. And if that means leaving the bright lights behind, well then, so be it. And if it means staying and shining bright, well, that’s alright too.
So, there you have it. A little bit of gossip about them Little House girls. Hope I didn’t bore you too much. Just an old woman rambling on, that’s all. But sometimes it’s nice to remember the old shows and the folks who made them special.
