Just be careful not to bust the bag open, though. You don’t want sugar all over your kitchen floor, trust me on that one. This way breaks up all them hard clumps, and it works pretty quick if you need sugar right away.
Another thing you can try, and I’ve done this too, is puttin’ the sugar in a low oven. Not too hot now, just around 200 degrees Fahrenheit, maybe a little less. You spread it out on a baking sheet and just let it sit in the oven for a bit. Keep an eye on it, though. You don’t wanna melt it, just warm it up enough to loosen it up. Give it a stir every now and then, and before you know it, that sugar will be soft as can be.
And if you got one of them fancy microwaves, you can try that too. Just put the sugar in a microwave-safe bowl with a damp paper towel on top, just like before, and zap it for a few seconds at a time. Not too long, though, or it might get all sticky and weird. You gotta do it in short bursts, like 10 or 15 seconds, and check it each time. It’s a bit trickier this way, but it can work if you’re careful.
So there you have it, a few different ways to soften that hard sugar. No need to throw it out and waste good money. Just try one of these tricks, and you’ll be back to bakin’ and sweetenin’ in no time. And remember, keep that sugar in a tight container to keep it from gettin’ hard again.
