Alright, so ya wanna know about that snake in that there Friday the 13th movie, huh? Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t pretty. I heard tell it was a real snake they killed, not some fancy movie trick. Real snake, real dead. Makes ya stomach churn a bit, don’t it?
Now, this here gal, Alice, she’s the one who finds it. In her cabin, no less. Screams and hollers, gets her friends involved. Bill, that fella, he comes runnin’ in first, brave as ya please. But that snake, it didn’t stand a chance. They whacked it. Killed it dead.
Folks been arguin’ about it for years, you know? Sayin’ it was wrong, sayin’ it was cruel. And I gotta say, I kinda agree. I mean, a snake’s just a snake, doin’ its snake thing. Didn’t deserve to get killed for a movie, that’s for sure.
- Some say it was a special effects guy’s idea. Found a snake under his bed, they say. But if he was so good at special effects, why not just make a fake snake? Makes ya wonder, don’t it?
- And then there’s them other movies, like that Cannibal Holocaust one. Heard they killed all sorts of critters in that one. People got mad, real mad. But for some reason, that Friday the 13th snake didn’t get the same kinda fuss. Not right away, anyways.
I reckon it’s because back then, folks weren’t as sensitive to these things. They just saw it as part of the movie, part of the scare. But times change, ya know? We learn better, we do better. At least, we try to.
Now, I ain’t no expert on movies or nothin’. I’m just tellin’ ya what I heard, what I read on that there internet thingy. But it seems to me like killin’ a real snake for a movie ain’t right. There’s gotta be a better way to do things, a kinder way. Animals ain’t got no voice of their own, so we gotta be their voice, ya know?
It’s like that Walking Dead show, ya ever seen it? They had a scene where a fella killed a rattlesnake. Folks got all riled up about that too. But at least that one wasn’t real, I don’t think. They used tricks, movie magic, whatever ya call it. That’s how it should be, in my opinion.
So, did they kill a snake in Friday the 13th? Yep, they sure did. A real one. And it’s a shame, a real shame. Makes ya think twice about watchin’ them old horror movies, don’t it? Ya start wonderin’ what else they did behind the scenes, what other critters they hurt for the sake of a few scares.
But hey, that’s just me talkin’. I’m just an old woman, what do I know? But I know right from wrong, and killin’ a harmless snake for a movie just feels wrong to me. Plain wrong. Maybe it’s time we all started thinkin’ a little harder about the things we watch, the things we support. Maybe it’s time we started speakin’ up for them that can’t speak for themselves. Just a thought.
Anyway, that’s the story of that snake, as far as I know it. Not a pretty story, but an important one, I reckon. Makes ya think, don’t it? Makes ya wonder what kinda world we live in, where killin’ a snake for entertainment is considered okay. Well, it ain’t okay by me, I tell ya that much. And I bet that snake didn’t think it was too okay neither.
So next time you’re watchin’ a movie, think about that snake. Think about all the other critters that get hurt for our entertainment. And maybe, just maybe, we can start doin’ things a little bit different, a little bit better. That’s my hope, anyways. Gotta have hope, even in this crazy world.
And that’s all I got to say about that there snake. It’s a sad story, but it’s a story that needs tellin’. And I done told it the best way I know how. Hope it made some sense to ya.
