Alright, let’s talk about these cocoa cherry brownies, or whatever fancy name they got. I ain’t no baker, mind you, just a regular person who likes to eat good stuff. And these here brownies? They’re good stuff, alright.
First off, what even is a brownie, you ask? Well, it ain’t exactly cake, and it ain’t exactly candy neither. It’s somewhere in between, like a cake that’s been squished down real good and made chewy. Some folks call ’em fudge brownies, and that’s probably ’cause they got that fudgy part in the middle. You know, that gooey, chewy bit that sticks to your teeth? That’s the good stuff.
Now, this recipe calls for cocoa powder. Not just any cocoa powder, mind you. The lady who come up with this recipe, she says you gotta use that Hershey’s Special Dark kind. Says it makes it better. I dunno, I just used what I had in the cupboard, some kinda cocoa powder from the store. But make sure you sift it, she says, ’cause sometimes it gets all lumpy. Like flour does when it sits around too long. You know what I mean?
And then there’s the oil. Most folks, they use butter in their brownies. But this recipe, it calls for oil. Canola oil, to be exact. I guess it makes ’em moister or somethin’. I ain’t complaining, they turned out real nice and soft.
Making the Brownies: It ain’t rocket science!
- First, you gotta mix up the wet stuff. That’s the oil, some eggs, and sugar. Just whisk it all together till it looks kinda frothy. Not too much, just enough so’s the sugar ain’t all gritty no more.
- Then you add in the dry stuff. That’s the cocoa powder, flour, a little bit of salt, and some baking powder. Mix it all up good, but don’t overmix it, or they’ll get tough. You want ’em soft and chewy, remember?
- Now for the cherries. You can use fresh, frozen, or even those dried-up ones from the store. Chop ’em up a bit and stir ’em into the batter. Makes it look pretty, and they taste good too. Gives it a little somethin’ extra, you know?
Pour that batter into a pan, and stick it in the oven. How long you bake it for? Well, that depends on your oven. Mine’s kinda old and cranky, so it takes a little longer. Just keep an eye on it, and when it looks done, stick a toothpick in the middle. If it comes out clean, they’re ready. If it’s got gooey batter on it, give it a few more minutes.
Let ’em cool down before you cut ’em, or they’ll just fall apart. And then, well, then you eat ’em! They’re good with a glass of milk, or a cup of coffee. Or just by themselves, if you’re like me. They’re perfect for when company comes over, or just for a little treat for yourself.
These cocoa cherry brownies ain’t nothin’ fancy, but they’re good and they’re easy to make. And that’s all that matters, right? So go on, give ’em a try. You won’t be disappointed. And if you are, well, don’t come cryin’ to me! I just told you how to make ’em, I ain’t responsible for your baking skills, or lack thereof!
Now, I’m gonna go get myself another one. All this talk about brownies has made me hungry. You enjoy now, ya hear?
