Alright, alright, let’s talk about this here… holly golightly cat, or whatever that city gal called it. Cat, yeah, that’s it. Plain and simple, just like how things should be.
This here Cat, ain’t no fancy pedigree or nothin’. Just a regular ol’ stray, like them you see scrounging around the back of the diner. But this one, well, this one was different, see? It had somethin’ special, somethin’ that caught the eye of that… Holly lady.
Now, I ain’t seen the movie myself, mind you. Too busy with my own critters and chores. But from what I hear, this Cat was a real character. Just like them wild raccoons we got in the woods ’round here. Always comin’ and goin’, doin’ as they please.
- Can’t be tamed, that’s for sure.
- Just like them wild birds, can’t keep ’em cooped up.
- Always gotta be free, gotta be movin’.
That Holly gal, she understood that, I reckon. She knew you can’t go puttin’ your heart on somethin’ that ain’t meant to be held down. It’s like tryin’ to hold water in your hands, just gonna slip right through your fingers. You give your heart to somethin’ wild, it’ll just get stronger and stronger, till it’s strong enough to run off and do its own thing.
This Cat, it didn’t have a name, not a real one anyways. Holly just called it “Cat”, plain and simple. Guess she didn’t want to get too attached, didn’t want to make it seem too… real. Like puttin’ a name on it would somehow tie it down. And that Cat, it wouldn’t have none of that, no sir.
Some folks say that Cat was a metaphor, or somethin’ fancy like that. A symbol for Holly herself, maybe. Always runnin’, always lookin’ for somethin’ but never stayin’ put long enough to find it. Like them tumbleweeds blowin’ across the fields, never knowin’ where they’re gonna end up. Always on the move, always searchin’ for somethin’ just out of reach.
Makes you think, don’t it? About how we try to hold on to things, try to make ’em stay when they’re meant to be free. Like tryin’ to keep a butterfly in a jar, just ain’t right. That Cat, it taught Holly a lesson, I reckon. A lesson about lettin’ go, about acceptin’ things as they are, not tryin’ to change ’em.
And that’s the truth of it, ain’t it? You can’t force nothin’, not love, not friendship, not even a stray cat. You just gotta let it be, let it find its own way. And maybe, just maybe, it’ll come back to you on its own terms.
Now, this Orangey fella, the one who played Cat in the movie… Heard he was a real pro, a natural. Won awards and all that. But to me, he was just a cat, doin’ what cats do. Bein’ themselves, bein’ wild, bein’ free. And that’s somethin’ to be admired, I tell ya.
So, next time you see a stray cat wanderin’ by, don’t go tryin’ to cage it, don’t go tryin’ to change it. Just let it be. Let it live its life, the way it was meant to. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll learn somethin’ from it, just like that Holly gal did. Life’s too short to be holdin’ on too tight, gotta let things flow, gotta let things be.
And that’s all I gotta say about this here holly golightly cat. Just a simple creature, livin’ a simple life, teachin’ us city folks a thing or two about freedom and love. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed my own critters. They ain’t no movie stars, but they’re mine, and that’s all that matters.
