Well, hello there! You wanna know about books like that “Outlander,” huh? I tell ya, that story about that Claire and Jamie, it’s somethin’ else. Makes an old lady like me feel young again, all that travelin’ and lovin’ and whatnot. But, you know, even the best stories end, and then you’re left lookin’ for somethin’ new to read.
So, if you’re missin’ “Outlander” somethin’ fierce, I got a few ideas for ya. Mind you, I ain’t no fancy book critic or nothin’. Just a woman who likes a good story, same as you.
First off, they say there’s this “Poldark” show and books. Folks say it’s like “Outlander” ‘cause it’s got history and romance, but I ain’t so sure. Then there’s somethin’ called “The White Queen” and “The White Princess” and even a “Spanish Princess.” Too many princesses for my taste, but some folks like ‘em. They say they’re pretty good for passin’ the time, you know, like when you’re waitin’ for the doctor or somethin’.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ fancy-schmancy, there’s this “Victoria” and “Downton Abbey.” Lots of rich folks and their problems. Not my cup of tea, but they’re popular, so I gotta mention ‘em. Oh, and that “Bridgerton.” Heard it’s all about fancy parties and findin’ husbands. Not like Claire, who went and found herself a whole different time period!
- Poldark – History and romance, they say.
- The White Queen/Princess/Spanish Princess – More history, more princesses.
- Victoria/Downton Abbey – Rich folks and their troubles.
- Bridgerton – Fancy parties and findin’ love.
But if you want somethin’ a bit more like “Outlander,” with that strong woman and all that adventure, I got a few more for ya. There’s this “Into the Wilderness” by some woman named Sara Donati. Heard it’s got a good story, kinda like Claire’s, you know, with a woman goin’ off on an adventure.
Then there’s somethin’ called “A Murder in Time.” Now that sounds excitin’! A murder and time travel? Maybe it ain’t got no Jamie, but it sure sounds like it could keep you up at night readin’.
And if you’re lookin’ for a bit of a love story mixed in with your history, try “The Stolen Marriage.” I ain’t read it myself, but I heard it’s about a woman who… well, I guess her marriage gets stolen! Sounds like a mess, don’t it? But messes make for good stories, that’s for sure.
Someone told me about “The Red Tent” too. Said it’s about women and their lives back in the old days. I reckon it’s kinda like “Outlander” ‘cause it shows you how things used to be, you know, before cars and phones and all that modern stuff.
Oh, and for you young’uns, there’s this “A Court of Thorns and Roses.” It ain’t history, but it’s got magic and romance, so it might tickle your fancy if you like that kind of thing. I tried readin’ it, but all them fancy words just made my head spin.
So there ya have it. A whole mess of books that might, just might, fill that “Outlander” sized hole in your heart. But let me tell ya, nothin’s ever gonna be quite like Jamie and Claire. Those two, they’re somethin’ special. But these books, well, they’ll keep you company till you can read “Outlander” all over again, which is what I usually end up doin’ anyway. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with readin’ a good book more than once, ya know. It’s like visitin’ old friends.
Remember, these are just suggestions. You gotta find what you like. Don’t be afraid to try somethin’ new, even if it ain’t exactly like “Outlander.” You might just surprise yourself and find a whole new world to get lost in. And ain’t that what readin’s all about?
Now, go on and get yourself to the library or the bookstore. There’s a whole world of stories waitin’ for ya. And who knows, maybe you’ll find one that’s even better than “Outlander.” But don’t tell me if you do, ’cause I don’t think my old heart could take it!
